Transport Minister Kamal Nath said on Monday that in the current fiscal year, India will build only 12/13 km of road per day, in place of the target of 20 km per day.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had said that building infrastructure will be crucial for India to achieve a growth rate of 10 percent in the next few years.
One wonders how India will be able to build up this infrastructure when so many km of built roads are regularly being dug up.
June 2009- The Maoists and their tribal supporters dug up roads.... to prevent the security forces from advancing.
Sept. 2009- the PSBJC supporters have reverted to their earlier method of protesting — digging up roads and felling trees across them .
It seems to be an exercise in futility, building roads only to have them dug up!

I personally read these as political statements without much substance.
Let us forget what Kamal Nath has said.Can we recall that after taking oath in May 09, the PM had made a definite statement of their targets for the first 100 days.Has the govt made any progress?When the budget proposals were presented in the Parliment, PM said that the effect of Diesel price rise will be 0.04 %.
Let us not take these statements seriously because the only objective is to remain in power.Be it Kamal Nath or any other minister.
How quickly it has been forgotten that it was BC Khanduri who took up this task from a scratch and did a terrific job, still unsurpassed, primarily because he was not looking for 'cuts' and too up the challenge on a war footing. Unfortunately, even the BJP has sidelined him; that party too is happy to enjoy the spoils of IPL and more,it seems!
bkc sir..i really liked the words..collaborate with the inevitable..it makes sense as most times v r caught in situations where v r left helpless..v have to keep our cheers in all circumstances..big challenge indeed..but worth trying what say?
