In March, 2008, in Jhalawar, Rajasthan,
after weeks of intense negotiation with the Kanjars, the police convinced 85 of them to surrender. Subsequently, 200 more surrendered.
Since then, the Jhalawar police have been working hard for the rehabilitation of the people of this denotified nomadic tribe, long associated with crime.
When the Jhalawar police got a reward of Rs. 38,000 for arresting 56 offenders, all of them Kanjars, they gave it to the relatives of those arrested, to be used for bail and lawyers' fees.
The police acted as liaison between the Kanjar and the district administration, to ensure the delivery of welfare schemes in Jhalawar’s Kanjar settlements. They helped them get jobs. They enrolled the Kanjar children in government schools.
Jhalawar SP Gaurav Srivastav says
,“Although I will not say nobody has gone back to crime, close to 90 per cent have stayed away.”
This can happen only in India. As per government records, two
real brothers were born just five months apart around 58 years ago.
More surprising than this medical impossibility – there is no evidence to suggest that they were born to different mothers – is the fact that this glaring error has remained undetected for 37 years. No these guys are not Group 4 employees working in some remote corner where records are difficult to trace or link.
They are senior IPS officers of the 1973 batch. One is already DG of the BSF while the other is set to take over as DG CRPF and create 'history'!
The Home Ministry, on whose web site their dates of birth are available, is unable to explain this 'discrepancy' even now. This is real history!

Close on the heels of the shocking manner in which Jessica Lall's murderer Manu Sharma was granted parole comes another damning revelation.
The Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) has
found in a recent audit that over 60% of those granted parole jump it, never to return to jail. And those who do return, do so after overstaying, sometimes for years.
What is even more shocking is that no one gives a damn. Not only is reporting of such cases delayed, inaction on part of the SPs, SHOs and DMs ensures that no one is apprehended.
Although this has been discovered in a review of two districts of Punjab, things are not expected to any better elsewhere.
It need little intelligence to deduce that the whole system is completely corrupt; dangerous criminals who can pay are roaming free.
