Why rob an ATM? Just take it!

A couple of months back, thieves broke into a shop in Churu, Rajasthan and, instead of breaking open the 1.4 ton safe containing Rs 17 lakhs, they simply uprooted it and took it away.

That smart trick probably inspired thieves in Meeraganj, Jabalpur. In the early hours of Sunday, they apparently drugged security guard Khangar Razzak and then took away the ATM of the Union Bank of India.

The Superintendent of Police says that the ATM was not properly installed. He also 'revealed' that it would have taken 7-8 persons and a vehicle to do the job because the machine weighed around 450 kgs.

The amount looted? Rs 1.65 lakhs. Or Rs 20,000 per thief. Sure they must be wondering now whether that will be enough to even pay off friendly cops to let them go, should they be spotted.

Politician tries to rape Russian; she was lucky

This was possibly the last feather that was left to adorn the crown of India's politicians.

John Fernandes, an aspiring politician who narrowly lost to Goa Tourism Minister in the last elections, has been accused by a Russian tourist of attempting to rape her.

According to a complaint filed by her at Kolva police station, the 25-year Russian was offered a lift by Fernandes in his car on Tuesday night. But, instead of taking her to the hotel, he took her to a lonely spot and tried to rape her. Luckily, she managed to free herself and reach the hotel.

Not surprisingly, Fernandes is not traceable. Investigations are on, say the police.

The Russian was fortunate. Can we say the same about Mother India? Vande Mataram?

Chor chor zindabad

If you are into kidnapping, extortion, attempting to murder, or even "pure" murder, all is not lost. You have a very "productive" career ahead of you as a candidate for elections in Jharkhand, supposed to take place on 25th.

Out of a total of 470 candidates, 370 have been checked out by the National Election Watch, and 108 candidates have criminal backgrounds.

27 candidates have declared assets of more than 1 crore. 168 candidates have not provided PAN card details, and by logic, their tax payment details .

Why were they allowed to contest ?

A retired peon I know was refused the facility of a bank account because he didn't have a PAN card. (The bank did not inform him about the form 60 alternative)

Is being a criminal a necessary electoral qualification ?

Why Break It If You Can Take It!

Why break a safe if you can take it? So what if it weighs 1.5 tons!

That's exactly what thieves did in a jeweller's shop in the main market of Churu in Rajasthan at around 3 AM last Saturday. After breaking into the shop quietly by opening six different locks, the thieves uprooted the safe containing jewellery worth Rs 17 lakhs, put it in a jeep and sped away!

Shopkeepers living opposite were woken up by the noise made by the safe as it was being loaded into the getaway jeep. Even though they shouted and others also came out on hearing the commotion, the thieves got away.

The Police arrived late, as always, and showed little interest in investigating.

The thieves, who have yet to be caught, must have by now broken the safe open in a safe place!

Religion and Sex Crimes: Two More Cases

What is it that make some men of religion do exactly the opposite of what religion teaches and what they themselves preach? Particularly when it comes to sex?

The latest in the unending series of sexual crimes involve a pastor and a granthi.

Father Sadhu Immanuel has been arrested for raping a 20 year old girl. This 60 year old man runs a charitable trust in a village near Minjur in Tiruvallur district, Tamil Nadu. Reportedly, he has sexually assaulted other girls too, even inside the church.

A few days after a granthi was found watching pornographic clips on his mobile while reading the Granth Sahib, another one has been caught after he tried to assault a five-year old girl in a village near Barnala, Punjab.

Makes one wonder whether Osho was right, after all.

Man Rapes Bitch, To Be Tried

In what could prove to be path-breaking move in law, a Mumbai man is going to be tried for raping a bitch.

To prove its case, the prosecution is collecting semen and going to laboratories to prove that force was used in this non-consensual sex. Tardeo Police are in search of more eyewitnesses whose testimony will be crucial since the victim's statement cannot be recorded. Or deciphered.

Section 377 of the IPC is being applied in this act of unnatural sex. Gay activist Vikram Doctor says that what has been done is wrong since “animals cannot give consent to what people do to them”.

This is not the first such instance. Anuradha Sawhney, Head PETA, says a case was registered earlier against a man in Delhi for raping a buffalo.

Wonder what some Arabs might have to say.

For Life Means For Five Years

The Andhra Pradesh Government recently issued an order to release almost 1000 prisoners, convicted of serious crimes and serving life sentences.

Prisoners can be released on remission after serving five years of their sentence.

The Andhra Pradesh Government had previously released prisoners on remission in 2004.

One of them was Mujeeb Ahmed, who was sentenced to life imprisonment in 1994 and released on special remission in 2004, notwithstanding the protests of the Police force.

Mujeeb went underground, becoming an active member of the Hizbul-Mujahideen and ISI.
He was arrested again in December 2005.

On Friday, Mujib Ahmed was convicted by a Hyderabad court, on the charges of of sedition and collecting arms to wage war against the country, and sentenced to life imprisonment.

In India that means five years, right?
